Took a short winter session studio class and chose to research and create illustrations over different Cinderella tales. This one is a Russian version about a Cinderella figure using food and magical objects to escape the home of a Baba Yaga intending to eat her. The class was short so I didn't complete the project but I do have sketches, thumb works, and line art to play with later.
Here's sketches of the Cinderella figure and the baba yaga and a sketching exercise to figure out what I want the characters to look like.
For the finished illustration I played with using charcoal shading and I kind of like it. Here's the line art without the shading and the shading without the line art.
Also apart of the series is a Vietnamese adaption and an Irish adaption. Here are pieces from those stories, too.
